How Exness runs on a Windows PC

On a desktop PC, Exness runs through the MetaTrader 5 and MetaTrader 4 Windows terminals, which install on Windows 10 and Windows 11. The download links are in the Exness account area once you have signed in.

Owned PC or borrowed PC — which route survives the setup

If you would rather not install a desktop app, the Exness Terminal runs in any browser on the PC with nothing to download. MetaTrader gives more advanced charting and automated trading; the web terminal starts without an install.

What each route asks of the machine

A desktop terminal is a program: it needs disk space, it stays installed, it keeps its own chart templates and journal locally, and installing it needs permission on the machine. On a laptop that is already close to full, or one that belongs to somebody else, none of that is neutral.

The browser route asks for none of it. The Exness Terminal opens in a tab, keeps nothing on disk, and works the same on a borrowed machine as on an owned one. What it does need is a browser that is reasonably current and a tab that is not closed by accident, which is a different kind of discipline.

Screen size deserves a mention before either. A 13-inch laptop at a low resolution can show a chart perfectly well, but it cannot show a chart, a watch list, an order window and a journal at once. Deciding what actually needs to be visible during a session is worth doing before deciding which software shows it.

A connection that drops is a planning problem, not a software one

Plenty of setups here run on mobile data, on a shared connection, or on a line that becomes unreliable in the evening — which is exactly when the London and New York hours arrive in PHT. Neither the desktop terminal nor the browser route can prevent a dropout, so the plan has to survive one.

Practically that means orders that do not depend on being watched. A position with its stop and target already attached is safe from a dropped line in a way that a position managed by hand is not. Reconnecting is quick; being disconnected at the wrong moment with no stop attached is not recoverable by software.

A second device on a different network is the cheap insurance. A phone on mobile data alongside a laptop on home broadband means a dropout on one is an inconvenience rather than an emergency, and it costs nothing beyond installing the app before it is needed rather than during the problem.

Power, updates and the other interruptions

Power interruptions are a real part of planning an evening session in many parts of the country, and a laptop with a working battery handles them where a desktop does not. Checking that the battery still holds a charge before relying on an evening session is more useful than any software setting.

Windows updates are the other interruption, and they are avoidable. Scheduling the active hours so that a restart cannot land in the PHT evening takes a minute and removes an entire category of surprise. The same goes for automatic sleep settings on a machine that is meant to stay connected.

None of this changes what the platform can do. It changes whether the platform is running when it matters, which on this side of the world is an evening question rather than a morning one.

Setting up a Windows machine for an evening PHT session

1. Check free disk space and whether the account on the machine can install software at all — that answers desktop or browser on its own.
2. If installing, do it in the Manila afternoon, not minutes before the session.
3. Set Windows active hours so a restart cannot land in the evening.
4. Turn off automatic sleep for the machine while a session is running.
5. Confirm the battery still holds a charge if power interruptions are common where you are.
6. Install the phone app as a backup on a different network before it is needed.
